Peripheral Neuropathy

Treatment for peripheral neuropathy is central to our conception of wellness at Lighthouse Medical Center. As a doctor of chiropractic, Dr. Jason Cheshire is an expert in the interplay between the spine, the surrounding tissues, and the nerves that branch away from the spine to the rest of the body. But in 2018, after decades in practice, he founded the Lighthouse Medical Center in Pompano Beach to provide more comprehensive health services to the Broward County Community. Peripheral neuropathy can have many causes, so in order to fulfill our mission to treat the source and not just the symptoms, we provide a wide variety of therapies, none of which rely on addictive drugs or dangerous surgeries.

The peripheral nerves are the ones outside the brain and spinal cord. They relay information to and from the skin, muscles, and organs, allowing us to feel, control, and regulate those body parts. When peripheral nerves suffer damage, a person may experience shooting pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and dizziness. Damage to autonomic nerves, which lead to the organs, can also disrupt body regulation and cause overheating, digestive problems, high blood pressure, and too much or too little sweating. Causes of damage to peripheral nerves are diverse, but one of the most frequent culprits is high blood sugar, often found in people with diabetes. Other potential causes include rheumatic conditions, vitamin deficiencies, acute injuries, and pressure caused by inflammation related to long-term wear and tear.

As an office that provides chiropractic care, Lighthouse Medical Center is a place where people can get spinal and extremity adjustments to relieve pressure on their peripheral nerves from displaced tissues. But the philosophy of chiropractic is to balance the body so it can heal itself, and goes further than adjustments. Our treatments are tailored to individual patients’ unique needs, but in general, we work to increase blood flow to the nerves, allowing them to get the nutrients they need to repair themselves. Our Pompano Beach office uses low level light therapy to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels. We apply electric muscle stimulation to convulse the muscles, increasing blood flow and training the connecting nerves to receive electrical impulses from them again. Our nutritional coaching and supplement program helps ensure that patients are getting all the ingredients they need to support their bodies, and our in-clinic and online education programs coach patients in other aspects of holistic health, including posture and diverse therapeutic exercises.

People can and do recover from peripheral neuropathy, but addressing it at its source requires holistic lifestyle changes. Lighthouse Medical Center in Pompano Beach is not only a place for safe pain relief, but for regeneration and maximizing the body’s potential for self-healing and performance.
